We Got Us: The Importance of Community During Election Aftermath

We get it and we feel you.

This election had everyone on an emotional rollercoaster: Will she, or won’t she? Will he or please Lord, don’t he!

Now that the ride is over and we’re forced to face a new reality, the emotions are back – except this time they may be anger, depression, anxiety, and uncertainty for the future.  Regardless of how you’re feeling, one thing that shouldn’t be overlooked is the importance of community. Being part of a supportive community during this period is essential for processing emotions, fostering connection, and promoting collective action.

Elections are more than just outcomes; they are reflections of our collective hopes, values, and visions for the future. So when those ideas don’t get validated (e.g., who we voted for loses) we can sometimes feel underrepresented, disregarded, and marginalized (again).

But a community offers a safe space to express emotions and engage in meaningful dialogue. Whether you’re feeling joy, disappointment, or confusion, sharing those feelings with others who listen and empathize can provide emotional relief. This shared experience reminds us that we are not alone.

Community also serves as a catalyst for action. It’s where ideas take shape, plans are made,

and people unite to drive change. Whether it’s volunteering, organizing, or simply having meaningful conversations, working together amplifies individual efforts and promotes a sense of agency.

As the dust settles on this election season, remember that the power to shape the future doesn’t end at the ballot box. It lives in our communities—in the ways we support one another, engage with the world around us, and strive to make a difference.

Together, we’re stronger, more resilient, and better equipped to face whatever comes next.

So, don’t worry.

We got you.
